Below is an overview of our 2nd grade curriculum.
Students are taught to express their ideas effectively and clearly, both orally and in writing. Students are provided daily with opportunities to develop skills in reading, writing and word study. In 2nd grade children apply these skills by writing Personal Narratives and informative reports, note taking in Science journals, letter writing and social notes, and poetry writing. The children take part in literacy groups as well as individual presentations of research projects and reports.
Children are encouraged to exercise their natural curiosity and to make assumptions based on their perceptions. Children are provided with hands-on experiments and are given the opportunity to experiment, ask questions, and find their own answers. We use both Delta and FOSS Science Kits in our science studies.
