Language Arts
In Kindergarten children are exposed to a wide variety of activities to promote a love of learning and an interest in all areas of language expression. Reading and Writing Program components include:
- reading aloud to children
- shared, guided and independent reading
- phonics-based reading and comprehension
- daily Writers’ Workshop
Science
Children are encouraged to exercise their natural curiosity, to make assumptions based on their perceptions, and to test those assumptions. Students are provided with hands-on experiments, the opportunity to ask questions and to find their own answers. We use both Delta and FOSS Science Kits in our science studies. Thematic units include:
- Balance and Motion
- Senses
- Weather / Water Cycle and Conservation
- Nutrition – Tikun Olam (Community Service) Project
- Animals and Their Habitats
- Properties
Social Studies
Through integrated units of study and literature, children explore a variety of topics including culture; individuals, and groups and their interactions. Thematic units include:
- Systems (A whole made up of many co-dependent parts )
- Community Helpers
- Judaic and National Holidays
- Wants and Needs
- Cultural Habitats, such as Deserts, Rainforests, and the Arctic
Math
The Everyday Math program allows children to develop understanding of math concepts gradually through repeated exposure to topics. This program emphasizes the application of mathematics to real world situations. Topics of study include:
- Number Sense 0 – 100
- Calendar time
- Shapes
- Patterns
- Sorting and classifying
- Graphing
