Ritual Life

Embracing the Joys of Jewish Life

Almost every day at The Lerner School is a day to celebrate our Jewish tradition in some way. It may be as simple as singing blessings before lunch or participating in the joyful arrival of Shabbat, or as exciting as the blowing of the shofar on Rosh Hashanah. Whatever it is, it offers our students a way to appreciate the relevance of Jewish tradition in everyday life.

T’filah and Torah study

Our students learn the importance of Judaism through Torah study and daily T’filah. Rich in tradition, the stories of our ancestors inspire students to search for deeper meanings—meanings that have relevance in their daily lives. Our pluralistic orientation addresses both traditional and modern approaches to the prayers of Siddur as well as to the study of Tanach.

Shabbat

The special quality and sanctity of Shabbat are an integral part of upholding Jewish tradition at the Lerner School. Students joyfully celebrate the arrival of Shabbat and learn about its rituals and customs through stories, song, and dance. Afternoon activities, including story and discussion of the weekly Torah portion, are carefully crafted for all grade levels.

Tzedekah & Mitzvot

At almost any moment on our campus, you will find teachers, staff and families modeling the principals of Tzedekah & Mitzvot. In addition to observing these acts of kindness, students themselves learn about and fulfill mitzvoth on a daily basis. Our Tzedakah projects reach local, national, and international communities. These programs provide food and clothing to homeless shelters, build relationships with schools in developing countries, and raise funds for student-directed causes. This integrated educational experience encourages students to become active, constructive participants in both the Jewish community and the world at large.
