Admission Policy

The Lerner School is open to all children who have at least one parent of the Jewish faith and whose family embraces the mission of the school. We welcome children into all grade levels. Prior knowledge of Hebrew is not a requirement.

The Lerner School considers several factors in the admission process, including student visits and interviews, school records and teacher recommendations, sibling enrollment, and gender balance. There are no evaluations for Preschool Program; however, preference is given to families who plan to continue at Lerner for elementary school.

Students entering Kindergarten must be 5 years old by October 16 of that year. Children whose birthdays fall shortly after the cut-off may be considered on a case by case basis.

Admission Process

Our admission process includes the following steps:

  • Call to arrange a tour of our school, meet with our Director of Admissions and request an information packet (919-286-5517 or admissions@lernerschool.org).
  • Return completed application along with a non-refundable application fee by February 15.
  • Sign the Transcript Request Form and give it to your child's current school so current school records may be forwarded to The Lerner School. (Elementary only)
  • Give the Recommendation Form to your child's current teacher, and have him/her return it to The Lerner School. (Elementary only)
  • Your child will be invited for a classroom visit and observation.

Admission decisions are made when the application process is complete.

Tuition Policy

The Board of Directors establishes tuition and fees at The Lerner School. Tuition represents approximately 70%-75% of the total cost of providing a Lerner School education for each student and fundraising events, contributions, and grants make up the balance.

The school has many on going fixed expenses, such as faculty salaries and facilities maintenance. In order to plan and maintain these services over the entire year, it is essential that the annual income from tuition and fees be assured. For this reason, it is understood that the students are enrolled for the entire year or such portion as may remain after the date of entrance. In view of the foregoing, no reduction or remission of fees can be allowed by the school for absence or withdrawal. The fact that the School fees are paid in two or more installments does not constitute a fractional contract.

Emergency Tuition Assistance

Should a family in unexpected financial difficulty be unable to meet its tuition commitments, The Lerner School has policies in place to review the family's situation and offer emergency financial assistance, if available.

The Lerner School does not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, color, national or ethnic origin in admissions, financial scholarship or any school administered programs.
