Preschool Summer Camp!
A Place of Laughter, Learning and Fun in the Sun!
Lerner School’s play-based preschool summer camp allows an opportunity for children to continue learning and having fun in the summertime under the warm guidance of our teachers. Our summer curriculum is a dynamic blend of theme, interest and skills-based activities designed to inspire your child. We incorporate creative hands-on activities and explorations into our weekly themes, including:
June 13-15: Shutter-Bug Photography
3-day mini-camp
Say Cheese! Children will explore and experiment with digital cameras and will even get to take their own pictures. We’ll photograph our favorite things and people and put together a framed collage of our work. Join us for our gallery exhibition at the end of the week!
June 18-22: Crazy for Cooking
Hey kids, get your aprons on! We’ll set up a café with menus, take turns serving and of course we will “cook” every day. From entrees to treats, we’ll measure, mix and bake!
July 25-29: Icky, Sticky, Gooey Science
Attention young scientists, put on your lab coat as we mix and measure unusual concoctions, both inside and outside. It is science time in the Preschool as we conduct all sorts of experiments!
July 2-6: Camping - Explore the Great Outdoors
4-day mini-camp (closed July 4)
What’s it like to camp in the great outdoors? We’ll sit around the campfire, eat s’mores, sing songs and tell stories. We’ll set up our tent, take hikes and explore nature, go fishing, learn about constellations, and lie down under the stars!
July 9-13: Wacky, Wild, Woodworking
What can preschoolers make with wonderful wood? Let’s find out together! We will explore measuring, sawing and hammering. Woodworking is a synthesis of physical dexterity, science, math and problem solving. We will work on cooperation skills and learn how to be both safe and productive.
July 16-20: Creepy Crawlies
EEEEWWWWWW!!!! No way! We will get down to the nitty-gritty of bug life. We will encounter lady bugs, ants, bees, spiders and more. (Don’t worry…most will be in books, pictures and, of course, the children’s own creations).
July 23-27: Pure Imagination
Endless possibilities abound! Imagination is the ability to form a mental image of something that is not perceived through the senses. Who is better at this than children? We will make up stories, create art, pretend play and tap into the children’s imagination for an exciting week of discovering the hidden gems that lie within each of us.
July 30-August 3: Water - Here, There and Everywhere
Let your child discover the science of water. We’ll experiment with color mixing, create water flow mazes, and learn about floating and sinking objects. We’ll enjoy getting wet while we explore the properties of water!
August 6-10: Games and Puzzles
Playing is how children learn and the younger a child is, the more important play is for his/her development. Board Games, Freeze Tag, Hokey Pokey, I-Spy, Operator and Duck, Duck, Goose – we will play them all and more as we have fun all week. The children might even design their own games or make their own puzzles during the week devoted to pure fun.
August 13-15: Lerner Olympiad
3-day mini-camp
We may not be able to fly to London for the 2012 summer games, but we will have our own Olympic experience right here in North Carolina! The children will participate in track and field, gymnastics, basketball and more. We also will talk about people coming together from around the world when we hold our own parade of nations. What a great way to end the summer!
Part of each day is devoted to Free Play with friends, when the children have opportunities to explore water, paint, singing, gardening, rhythm, and movement. We celebrate Shabbat every week during the summer, just as we do during the school year. The cozy and inviting environment of summer camp is the perfect beginning for your rising preschooler!
