"The more schooling, the more wisdom."

-Pirkei Avot 2:7

Restricted funds are established in concert with a donor to meet a particular school need

or support an area of academic interest or are established by the board to support new

programs or curricular developments. Restricted funds are typically spend-down funds,

meaning over time money is expended from the fund to support activities and programs

in-line with the fund’s established mission.

To learn more about donating to, or establishing a restricted fund, please contact the

Director of Development at 919-286-5517 or develop@lernerschool.org

The Martin Groder Fund enables Lerner to maintain an innovative, integrated curriculum

through support of educational expenses above and beyond those supported by tuition

and annual giving.

The Furniturelab Creative Arts Fund provides financial support for all costs associated

with Lerner’s arts curriculum, including programs integrated into the classroom as well

as class or whole school enrichment programs.

The Library Fund supports our incredible library, which serves as the centerpiece of the

Lerner School.  In the library, Preschool and Elementary students are guided in search of

books that will spark their imaginations and open their minds.

Jordan Shamp PE Fund honors a beloved Lerner teacher and supports Lerner’s physical

education program as well as special field trips to enable our students to experience

athletic opportunities not available on campus.

The Chai Fund

In 2014, the Lerner Board established the Chai Fund Endowment in honor of Lerner’s 18th

year. The initial Fund goal is $1,000,000. To jumpstart the endowment Lerner is seeking

18 founding donors to celebrate our Chai year with gifts of a minimum of $10,000. Gifts

of all amounts are welcome and appreciated.

For more information on the Chai Fund, how to establish a fund within the endowment in

honor or memory of a loved one, or how to name the endowment itself, please contact the

Director of Development at 919-286-5517 or develop@lernerschool.org

The Lerner School is currently the recipient of two endowment funds established through

the generosity of family members to support financial scholarship.

The Sam Fuchs Scholarship Fund was created in 1997 by members of the Fuchs family in

memory of Sam Fuchs, founder of Kinston, North Carolina’s only synagogue and a local

business leader.

The Albert and Adeline Gelb School Fund was created in 2003 by Elliot Cramer in honor

of the Gelbs.
